Anafé’s Code of Ethics: Our Ethical Principles
Anafé is committed to upholding principles of ethics and transparency in all its actions. The following key areas structure our approach.
Ethical Financing and Transparency
Anafé is funded exclusively through transparent and ethical sources. Every funding request undergoes a strict procedure, validated by the management, treasury, or board of directors, to ensure the financial and political independence of the association.
Prevention and Fight Against Sexist and Sexual Violence
Anafé is firmly committed to preventing and combating sexist and sexual violence, both internally and in its fieldwork. Awareness, prevention, and incident management mechanisms are in place to ensure that every person—whether activist, employee, or concerned individual—operates in a respectful environment. Any form of violence, harassment, or discrimination is addressed with the utmost care, in accordance with the association’s internal procedures.
Commitment of Activists
Anafé’s activists, whether involved in fieldwork or in the political dimension of the association, commit to a mandate that includes a code of ethics reflecting the association’s values. This charter guides their daily actions, ensuring their work aligns with principles of human rights, independence, and solidarity. They receive ongoing support to carry out their missions while respecting the individuals they assist and the association’s objectives.
Inclusivity
Anafé works to deconstruct border migration policies and detention practices through an intersectional approach.
The association also reflects on its internal practices and aims to develop a horizontal and participatory structure with an intersectional perspective. Ultimately, Anafé seeks to diversify activist profiles by promoting the inclusion of individuals with personal migration experiences and encouraging their involvement in all aspects of Anafé’s work.
Protection of Minors: A Priority
Anafé actively campaigns to end the detention of children at borders, whether accompanied by family or alone. The association works to ensure their physical and psychological safety, in collaboration with ad hoc administrators to guarantee their rights are respected. Anafé’s teams are trained to support minors held in waiting zones or facing difficulties at borders.
Data Protection (GDPR)
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Anafé ensures rigorous management of personal data belonging to migrants, activists, partners, and donors. Enhanced security measures are in place to protect sensitive information and ensure confidentiality.

Governance
Founded in 1989, Anafé is a collective of 19 organizations, 41 individual members, and 2 observer member associations. Member organizations have two votes in the General Assembly, while individual members have one vote each. Observer associations may participate in discussions but do not vote. Members meet annually at the General Assembly and elect the Board of Directors, the treasury, and the presidency every two years. The General Assembly defines the strategic and political actions of the association.
The Board of Directors, elected for a two-year term, meets regularly to implement the directions set by the General Assembly. Each board member—whether an organization or individual—has one vote.
Beyond its members, Anafé operates thanks to a diverse and committed team of activists. In recent years, Anafé has developed a more horizontal and participatory structure with an intersectional approach.
